About BaseballArt.com
This site has existed in one form or another for the past decade or so — but only in the past few months has this dream of building a community where baseball art can flourish really started to show signs of becoming a reality.
On February 11, 2010, BaseballArt was launched on Facebook, and the response has been tremendous. We’ve been contacted by many of the world’s best baseball artists, as well as publishers, agents, authors, bloggers, scholars and fans. Not only is there interest in building this community — there is a need. The Facebook page now has more than 600 fans, and continues to grow. The community is comprised of of a diverse group — linked by their interest in baseball-related art.
On April 11, 2010, filmmaker Peter Barossi completed a video about Baseball Art that explains the mission of this endeavor, and has already served to further stimulate interest in the baseball art community.
We have posted a handful of articles on this site over the past several months — including a feature on artist Lauren Creedon, a Harvard student who has demonstrated Major League talent. Other artists featured include Jonathan Banchick and Joe Bolger.
It is clear, however, that there are dozens of artists creating baseball-themed artwork who deserve to be recognized. BaseballArt.com plans to feature these artists, as well as the galleries, museums and websites where their work can be found. BaseballArt will also present our fans with information and news related to baseball art, and will look to foster communication about baseball art from members of this community.
Whether you are an artist or a fan, you can participate by posting comments on the blog page of this website, by using the comments form, or by going to our Facebook page. You can be assured that all comments will be read, and all participation is appreciated.
I look forward to building this community with you.
Sincerely,
Chris S. Cornell

Hi,
I stumbled upon this website while searching for ways in which to break into the baseball art world.
I have been drawing sports athletes since I was a child, and baseball is my favorite sport. I recently did a pencil sketch piece, of Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants.
I’m glad that a community of baseball artists like yours exists. I’m struggling, just as Lauren Creedon from your article, to find a way to produce baseball art for sale and not knowing whose permission and what licensure I would need to do so.
Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone.
Manny,
Thanks for visiting BaseballArt.com, and for taking the time to comment. I’d love to see your pencil sketch. Licensing and copywrite issues are complicated issues that BaseballArt intends to address with help from an attorney who is an expert in this field. Don’t let these issues stop you from developing your talents — just be aware that you will need to obtain rights before publishing or making prints or copies of some images.
Chris
SOUNDS GOOD> GOOD LUCK>
Outstanding website for artists of all levels to mix and interact with one another and learn from those already in the field. This is my next project as I’m waiting for the go ahead for something else”confidential”.When I get the okay I’ll post it and let everyone know.
As long as you do an original piece of art you have artistic license to it.I
still need to fogure out if an original composition from many photos combined is your copyright or a derivative work.I received one answer that said it was.So is it okay to reproduce it or what, another source said it was.Go figure!
SINCERELY,
STEVE
Thanks for the comment, Steve. This community is definitely a place where artists can interact. It has already also become a place for fans of quality original baseball art to find a variety of good, baseball-themed art. The website is coming along, but still has a little catching up to do when compared to our Facebook page: http://Facebook.com/BaseballArt.
Sincerely,
Chris
Hey Chris,
Congrats on the community you are building here. I am sure you will find a lot of people interested in quality, original baseball art. Look forward to more!
Best,
David
David,
Thanks for taking the time to stop by the site. I just want to let everyone know how great your “Be the Media” book has been as a resource as I help to build this community.
Sincerely,
Chris
Hi,
I am the owner of Artmaus Collectibles and there is an artist out there who you haven’t mentioned on facebook or here that I think you should. His name is Frank Scicchitano. You can see his website at http://www.tanoart.com. I have information about him on my blog at http://www.artmauscollectibles.blogspot.com or on my facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/artmauscollectibles
Thanks,
Randy

I’ve been making all forms of baseball art for years, to the confusion of many a viewer. It was the book, “Diamonds are Forever” ISBN 0-87701-468-x that showed me that fine art and baseball mix well. Great book.
As to the copyright question on images and artwork, I think the case of Rogers vs. Koons should be taken into account. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_v._Koons
The artist Jeff Koons made a sculpture from a post card, and lost big time in court to the photographer. If you paint a copyrighted image, there is possibly a problem with that if you sell the art and somehow the copyright holder finds out. I think MLB copyrighted property would probably work, but individual photographers are most likely the only ones that would go after you. Best to paint from memory anyway.
I was in a bar in Charlotte after a Bruce Springsteen concert a couple of years ago, and they had the most interesting sports art on the walls. They were wooden replicas of the jerseys of famous athletes from all professional sports, and I can’t even describe how unique they are. The bartender gave me the name and the website of the artist, but of course I lost it and can’t remember a thing about him now. You wouldn’t happen to know who it is I’m talking about and what his website might be?
Thanks,
Kim
Great website! Thanks for providing this valuable resource! I will be sure to check in often to see what’s new.

Nancy
This looks like a great community website. At the moment I don’t have a website of my own. I just do baseball art (mostly Yankees, new & old) as a part time hobby. I love to draw and have been drawing since High School. As an adult, my art work is 95% pen & ink using the method of Stipling. I do most of this in my spare time. When I retire, I hope to do it full time. I have sold some of my work but, I mostly donate them to charities and give as gifts to family and friends. I would love for you to see some of my work. Especially Munson. He was my favorite player along with the Mick.
Regards, Steve
Hey,
Great website. I just stumbled upon it. I had no ideas a community of baseball artists exist out there. I will be part of the art of baseball show at the Krevsky gallery that you have posted on the site. How can I get involved? Would love to share my work with others? Regards,,,Robert
